BAYFRONT PARK

BAYFRONT PARK

Bayfront Park, located at a nexus of waterfront open spaces along San Francisco’s eastern waterfront, is a site that is rich in cultural narratives and ecological history.

SITELAB led the community outreach effort in developing the site programming for the 5.5-acre waterfront park, working in close collaboration with the Mission Bay Redevelopment Group, the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure, the SF Port and Surface Design, the landscape architect for the park.

The park is one of the last key pieces to the multi-phase Mission Bay development, to be built alongside the new Warriors Arena. The community engagement process of interactive meetings and workshops, brought an updated lens as to what was working in the larger neighborhood and what was missing, insights and feedback on design and programmatic concepts. SITELAB worked with Surface Design to develop an integrated design approach that prioritized social and ecological sustainability and ultimately create a park that can serve all members of its community. The new Bayfront Park was approved and is slated to open in 2018-2019.
