SITELAB urban studio, in collaboration with West 8, produced the Public Realm Plan for Drexel University campus in Philadelphia. As part of an extensive analysis of the existing public realm and open spaces, West 8 and SITELAB organized the campus into distinct “villages”, servicing students, staff, and residents of the area with different public amenities to help create an identity for Drexel University and a sense of place for those who pass through.

The design outcome was a strong narrative and visual presentation backed by data and deep site analysis that framed both temporary activation and long-term design opportunities within Drexel’s public realm. Each of the villages contained a priority project, one that would significantly impact the identity or sense of community within that area of the campus. Final deliverables include developed designs for each of the identified villages as well as an overall framework plan that outlines core strategies for various systems (circulation and connections, storm-water, building massing) and elements (campus furnishings, lighting, campus way finding).
