SITELAB designed the master plan and wrote the design guidelines for a new 1.8 million square foot mixed-use development that includes two new residential buildings and an office tower sited around a central court and rehabilitated historic buildings. The project emphasizes and reimagines the characteristic alleyways of SoMa to connect retail, arts, and the new public spaces at the street level and on the rooftop of the Chronicle building. SITELAB also guided the project through a robust community engagement process that included site tours, public workshops, and temporary events in partnership with local arts organizations that culminated in the project being approved in December 2015.

The first phase of the project, completed in 2022, delivered 350,000 square feet of office and light industrial, a new residential building, and new park space. A critical component of the first phase has been strong linkages to the surrounding community and creative organizations with a curated program of user-driven events, community programming, and artwork within and around the project.
